Research Opportunities

The RESTORE (Research for Subsurface Transport and Remediation) group invites applications for post-doctoral fellowships, PhD, and MESc and undergraduate research positions.

The successful candidates will join a dynamic, inclusive research group that has been awarded over $14 million in external funding for experimental, field and modelling investigations. Current projects include:

  1. Stormwater infrastructure for mitigating non-point pollutant loads from urban watersheds
  2. Tracking pollutants in the environment from onsite wastewater systems
  3. Impact of climate change on coastal groundwater resources
  4. Performance of engineered cover systems for controlling acid mine drainage from waste rock piles
  5. Non-invasive imaging of defects in geomembrane liners at mine waste rock piles and landfills
  6. Hydrogeophysical characterization and monitoring of subsurface processes at environmental sites
  7. Geoelectrical detection and time-lapse monitoring of organic contaminants

PhD and MESc Graduate Students

Full research funding is available for high quality, motivated candidates with relevant degrees, strong academic standing, excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in the research opportunities identified above. Relevant academic, research, or industrial experience in the field is beneficial but not essential.

Undergraduate Students

Research opportunities are available for undergraduate students to support the diverse research projects in RESTORE. These opportunities may be 4-month or 8-month internships or final year undergraduate research theses. A great way for undergraduate students to get a taste of the exciting world of research!

PostDoctoral Fellows

The postdoctoral fellowships are for 1 to 3 years and involve leading one of a number of existing and upcoming research projects related to the research opportunities identified above. The postdoctoral fellow applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline, and relevant publications in highly respected journals in the field are considered an asset.
